Welcome. Autism Forge is a free autism chat and forum — autism chat rooms and a community forum made by autistic people, for autistic people, and run as a democracy: the members elect a president, everyone with an account gets one vote, and every page here is yours to edit. See how this site is run. Whether you are diagnosed, self-identified, questioning, or here for someone you love: you are welcome. No cure-talk, no pity, no masks required. Come and chat.

What is autism?

Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference. Autistic brains take in, process, and respond to the world differently — in how we sense things, how we communicate, how we focus, and what we find meaningful. Autism is a spectrum, but not a line from "mild" to "severe": it's more like a mixing desk, where each of us has our own levels across many channels — sensory sensitivity, spoken language, executive function, social energy, need for routine, and more. Two autistic people can be as different from each other as from anyone else.

Older diagnostic labels you may have heard — including what used to be called Asperger's syndrome — were folded into the single diagnosis autism spectrum disorder years ago. Here we just say autistic. Many of us see autism as part of who we are, not an illness to fix — that's the neurodiversity view this site is built on. Being autistic can also be genuinely disabling in a world not built for us, and both of those things are true at once.

You're not alone

The best thing on this site isn't a page — it's the people. Come say hi in the chat (no account needed), read the forum, or dive straight into a special interest thread and infodump to people who will actually be delighted.

Need help right now?

This is a peer community, not a crisis service. If you're in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, please reach a crisis line: Samaritans 116 123 (UK & ROI, free, 24/7), 988 (US & Canada, call or text), or find your country's services at findahelpline.com. You deserve support from a human right away.

This page — like every page here — is yours to edit. If you can say it better, press Edit and improve it. And if you think this place should be run differently, stand for president.

Who runs this place — and who chose them

You do. Autism Forge is a democracy: the members elect a president, and everyone with an account gets one vote. The staff below keep the lights on and answer to that election — nobody holds their position just because they were here first. You can always reach them: press 🚨 Summon help in the chat, or open a thread in the forum.

Elected president

Chosen by the members, in office until 13 August 2027. See the election →

Admins

Keep the servers running and carry out the elected president’s instructions. They are staff, not the government.

Ops

Look after the rooms day to day. Their only power over a person is to move a troublesome one to the banned room, where they can still talk and appeal.

…and 27 registered members — who hold the vote, the forum, and every page of the wiki. Stand for president, or vote →
